Alamosa sits in the wide open expanse of the San Luis Valley with the southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains rising dramatically to the east with some of Colorado's most committing 14er objectives right at their base. Little Bear Peak, Blanca Peak, and Ellingwood Point form a concentrated cluster of serious alpine summits with excellent rock, significant technical demands, and a remote character that draws experienced mountaineers from across Colorado.
Little Bear is widely considered one of the most challenging 14ers in Colorado. A committing ridge route with exposed moves and route finding demands, the most classic ascent, that sets it apart from virtually every other summit in the state.
