Why is this a good area to learn to sport climb?
Owing to well placed bolts and a variety of grades it is an easier transition compared to areas with runout climbing that tends to make things scarier. Walls tend to be steep and featured which makes for smaller, cleaner falls. Quality anchor hardware facilitates easier cleaning and lowering compared to old school areas where rappels are needed.
Is it good for rock climbing in winter?
While there are a handful of days where it is warm enough to rock climb in winter the orientation means minimal sun for most crags. From November-February tends to be a better time for ice climbing or heading to Shelf Road where there is more open sunny rock.
Is this a quiet and scenic location?
The canyon is pretty and some spots are quieter than others but it is located within 30 minutes of millions of people and has a highway through it. This means the walk to most crags is less than 15 minutes but also means road noise and traffic issues can be problematic in some spots we tend to avoid guiding.
