Do I need experience to ice climb?

No experience is necessary. Guides are there to instruct you and give you the best experience possible.

Is the Lake City Ice Park free?

There is no entrance fee. Unlike other ice parks there is no early entrance or other membership fees required.

Is the Lake City Ice Park as big as Ouray's Ice Park?

While Ouray is a little more extensive the routes in Lake City Ice Park are bigger, less crowded, and because of how they are farmed the quality tends to be less hacked out making for a better experience. You could basecamp here for a week and not run out of things to climb.

Are there weather conditions that will be cause for cancellation?

Not generally. In winter the only bad weather for ice climbing is hot weather. Thanks to it's location and orientation the Lake City Ice Park is the most reliable ice climbing in Colorado. Bad weather can make for challenging travel conditions and we suggest giving yourself plenty of time to get over mountain passes during your trip to ensure you can make it to the climbing area.

Inclusions

Lake City Ice Park sits in the heart of the San Juan Mountains, offering one of the most accessible and concentrated ice climbing experiences in Colorado. Frozen waterfall routes line the canyon walls just steps from the road, spanning a range of grades that make it a legitimate destination for first-time ice climbers and seasoned veterans alike. The remote setting in Lake City only adds to the appeal. This is mountain town ice climbing at its best.

The park's route variety is what keeps climbers coming back. Beginner-friendly pillars sit alongside bigger multi-pitch lines that make it a great prep day for bigger backcountry climbs nearby. The canyon's aspect and elevation make it the most reliable ice climbing location in Colorado often forming in November and lasting well into April.

As the only company with guides in town Colorado Climbing Company guides know Lake City Ice Park like the back of their hand and can tailor the day to your experience and goals. Lake City itself is worth the drive, and a day on the ice here is hard to match anywhere in the state.
