Who is the Alpine Rescue Skills Clinic for?
This clinic is for climbers heading into alpine terrain where we have less consistent anchor set ups and lots of transitions between 4th and low 5th class terrain. This requires some different steps and approaches compared to rescue in a typical rock climbing scenario where we commonly have three point anchors and belay off the anchor and rarely use body or terrain belays.
How is this different from a regular self rescue class?
Our regular Rock Rescue Course usually focuses on rock climbing systems. Alpine rescue applies similar problem solving concepts to more complex terrain where approaches, exposure, weather, loose rock, and limited communication may matter.
What skills can we practice?
Guides can cover lowers, raises, hauling concepts, rope ascension, assisting an injured partner, stuck rope problems, anchor decisions, transitions, and scenario-based problem solving.
Do I need advanced rope skills before taking this clinic?
You should be comfortable with basic knots, belaying, and climbing systems. The clinic can be adjusted, but it is most useful if you already have enough background to understand the context for rescue decisions.
Is this a rescue certification?
No. This is a practical skills clinic, not a formal rescue certification. The goal is to improve your ability to respond to common alpine climbing problems and know what to keep practicing.
