The North Ridge of Mt. Baker is widely regarded as one of the finest alpine snow climbs in the Pacific Northwest offering some of the biggest glaciers in the lower 48. Traversing the Coleman Glacier, the route follows a striking ridge of snow, ice, and volcanic rock to the 10,781-foot summit, offering sustained climbing, incredible exposure, and panoramic views of the North Cascades.
Our guided ascent begins with an approach to high camp, where we'll review glacier travel, rope systems, and movement techniques before preparing for an alpine start. Summit day follows the Coleman Glacier to the base of the ridge before climbing its classic snow and ice features to the summit. Throughout the trip we provide instruction on crampon technique, self arrest, rope travel, and alpine decision making, helping climbers build confidence while safely tackling one of the Cascades' most sought after objectives.
While less technical than many alpine ice routes, the North Ridge is a serious mountaineering objective that requires glacier travel, efficient movement in steep terrain, and the ability to spend long days in the mountains. This makes the trip ideal for climbers and mountaineers with some previous ice climbing experience or steep snow climbing ascents.
