Colorado Youth Climbing Programs

Climbing is a great activity that engages kids mentally and physically. It helps build confidence and problem solving skills. It requires focus, attention to detail, and for anyone living in Colorado it's something everyone should try.

Our climbing programs are focused on engaging kids on a deeper level beyond simply playing on the rocks. While every camp kids learn about climbing and the outdoors they also get to learn things about risk, self advocacy and awareness, that become a foundation for capable adults. Our focus is on helping develop both climbing and decision making skills for a lifetime of enjoying climbing and the outdoors.

With amazing locations it's a great opportunity to get a different perspective in local parks, meet new people, and become better climbers!

This program is geared towards kids 8-12 who enjoy climbing but maybe are just getting started or are more interested in hanging with their friends and enjoying the outdoors. During this camp participants will:

enjoy local climbing areas while instructors introduce them to new skills like how to belay or tie into their harness.
learn about plants and animals in Colorado.
learn safety skills for being outdoors.
learn how to be good stewards and etiquette for climbing outdoors.
meet like minded kids and socialize with new people.

Colorado Springs: June 2nd-6th, June 30th-July 4th, July 28th-August 1st

Denver/Boulder: June 9th-13th, July 14th-18th, August 4th-8th

Transportation to climbing site from pre-arranged pickup, group climbing equipment, harnesses, helmets, climbing shoes, certified guides.

This program is for kids who have previously attended camp or are really wanting to learn more and start climbing on their own. Generally best for kids 12 and older participants will progress under the watchful eye of certified instructors learning:

basic climbing skills for toproping like belaying, tying in, and rappelling.
sport leading skills like proper clipping, basic anchors and proper lead belaying
placing traditional gear such as cams and stoppers, building traditional anchors where bolts are not available.
multipitch climbing skills
outdoor etiquette and outdoor skills.

Colorado Springs: June 16th-20th, July 7th-11th, August 4th-8th

Denver/Boulder: June 23rd-27th, July 21st-25th, August 11th-15th

Explorers Program

This intensive program is geared towards older kids who have a combination of significant desire and skill. Participants who have not participated in previous camps will need to climb with an instructor prior to participation or submit a resume detailing their climbing and outdoor experiences. Like any significant opportunity these also feature significant risk with more intense and involved objectives than in our regular climbing camps. Not sure if this is the right program? June 16th-22nd The Desert West: After meeting in Colorado Springs participants will head the distance out towards the Western Slope where they'll get to explore desert climbing locations like Unaweep and the Black Canyon or more mellow days in Colorado National Monument.

July 14th-20th The High Alpine South: After meeting in Colorado Springs participants will head down around the San Luis Valley and Sangre De Cristos to enjoy some local cragging as well as some of the most classic 14er climbs in Colorado.

August 4th-10th The Craggy North: Participants will meet at crags west of Denver before departing for some of the most amazing locations in Colorado like alpine rock climbs in Rocky Mountain National Park, Eldorado Canyon and The Flatirons.

Locations: Click the registration for a more detailed itinerary. Specific itineraries sent before camp commences will include dates with specific camping and climbing locations.

I climbed the Crestone Traverse in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains with Jeremiah in August 2023, owner of the Colorado Climbing Company. Jeremiah was an outstanding guide. Besides utilizing his expertise on the climb, he cooked pizza for dinner and provided bagels for breakfast. He was a great instructor, had a sense of humor, and was patient. He is also an incredibly skilled alpinist. I used several guides this summer on technical climbs and my experience with him was unsurpassed. I highly recommend The Colorado Climbing Company for all of your climbing adventures in Colorado.

Each time, my guides Luc and Nico were very friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, and always made me feel safe even with my limited climbing experience. They were super helpful in teaching techniques and always encouraging me to get to the top! Jeremiah is always very helpful and responsive during the booking process, from recommending routes and even helping me reschedule when the weather didn’t cooperate. Holy smokes, these guys ROCK ( literally 😆🧗🏽‍♀️🧊) A huge shoutout to Olivia who was my ice climbing guide in Lake City. I am pretty new to ice climbing and I felt like this trip helped me grow tremendously. She was not only a master at all things ice climbing, but was a fantastic teacher. Learning knots, in addition to the art of ice climbing, can be overwhelming but she made it such a blast. We had an 8 hour trip and she somehow managed to keep me pumped the whole time. And as a new climber, she made it such a safe place to learn and ask ALL the questions. I’ve used plenty of guiding services before but these guys are definitely my top choice.

My wife and I recently booked a climb with The Colorado Climbing Company for a climb up the first Flatiron outside Boulder. We have a healthy amount of single pitch sport climbing experience, but hadn't done any trad climbing or multi-pitch. Our guide was very knowledgeable of the area, showed great proficiency with setting anchors and protection, and was overall a fun guy to hang out with. We would happily book another trip with them in the future, and would highly recommend them to anyone interested in climbing in Colorado.
