Climbing on the Western Slope

Wide open expanses of sagebrush and naked rock against a backdrop of cobalt colored skies define the Colorado Plateau which extends into the surrounding Four Corners region of Arizona, Utah, and New Mexico. When you're heading to the deserts of the West this area of Colorado will be your first taste. While many areas like Colorado National Monument are sandstone there is also some granite to be enjoyed on the large cliffs of Unaweep Canyon. With a desert climate it tends to be enjoyable in the cooler months of the winter, spring, and fall. Summers can require some planning but are still worth a visit when timed right. Come enjoy the sagebrush and sand with some of these Western Slope climbing areas below.
