Climbing in the South Platte

The South Platte climbing is some of the quietest and most adventurous of the Front Range climbing areas. While we're permitted for only a small area called the Cathedral Spires an hour or so from Denver we're lucky because it has some of the most classic crack climbs in all of Colorado. For those wanting to really up their crack climbing game or improve their multi-pitch skills this is a fantastic location with south facing granite domes and cracks running hundreds of feet into the air. While there isn't a lot in the way of easier climbs there are enough for an afternoon if you are just learning to climb. Raptor nesting usually means there is a closure that goes from March til the end of July, although sometimes earlier. This place may be for the birds in the spring and early summer but the best time to climb may be fall and winter anyways.
